Tuesday, 10th May 2011

South Australia's Willow Grove-based 2nd-season stallion Mint Lane (Maria's Mon-Sister Girl, by Conquistador Cielo) has been boosted by the continued success of his ill-fated US sire Maria's Mon (Wavering Monarch-Carlotta Maria, by Caro) who died aged 14 in 2007. Placed 3rd on the 2010 US Sires List, Maria's Mon is the sire of 55 stakes-winners, 8 Gr1 winners (including 2 Kentucky Derby winners), a US Champion 3YO & has progeny earnings approaching US$60 million. Most recently his daughter Awesome Maria won the Gr3 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream Park in the US by 8-lengths over 2010 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic heroine Unrivalled Belle & Exhi resumed from a 6-months layoff to win the Gr3 Ben Ali Stakes. The 1st son of Maria's Mon to stand in Australia, Gr2 Dwyer Stakes-winner Mint Lane sold for US$110,000 as a weanling, US$270,000 as a yearling & US$420,000 as a Ready-To-Run 2YO. Mint Lane's 2011 fee remains at $6,600.
