4 Japan Gr1 Oka Sho Winners In Harbinger 1st Book
Also in Japan, last year's world champion racehorse & now 5YO 1st-season stallion Harbinger (Dansili-Penang Pearl, by Bering) "has covered 4 individual winners of the Gr1 Oka Sho-Japanese 1000 Guineas in his 1st book of mares at the Shadai Stallion Station on the island of Hokkaido" reported racingpost.com. The Oka Sho winners are 10-year-old Dance In The Mood (Sunday Silence-Dancing Key, by Nijinsky), 8YO Kiss To Heaven (Admire Vega-Long Virgin, by Northern Taste), 7YO Daiwa Scarlet (Agnes Tachyon-Scarlet Bouquet, by Northern Taste) & Arima Kinen; and 6YO Reginetta (French Deputy-Aspen Leaf, by Sunday Silence). Harbinger's other star coverings include: 9YO Cesario (Special Week-Kirov Premiere, by Sadler's Wells) who won both the Gr1 Japanese Oaks at Tokyo & US Gr1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park; & 13-year-old My Katies (Sunday Silence-Katies first, by Kris), the dam of multiple Gr1-winner Admire Moon. English galloper Harbinger (trained by Sir Michael Stoute & part-owned by Australian interests) was the top-rated horse for 2010 at 135, before a fractured cannon bone forced his premature retirement; he achieved his rating when defeating a star-studded field in the Gr1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (12 furlongs) by 11-lengths at Ascot. Harbinger was originally a 180,000 guineas (A$288,000) yearling at the 2007 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he recorded 6 wins (also including 2010's UK Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes over 12 furlongs at Royal Ascot, UK Gr3 Ormonde Stakes over 13.5 furlongs at Chester & UK Gr3 John Porter Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2009's UK Gr3 Gordon Stakes over 12 furlongs at Goodwood) & 2 placings (including 2009's UK Gr3 St Simon Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newbury) from 9 starts for £773,931 (A$1.2m) earnings.
