Argentina Yearlings Day-1: US$133k Giant's Causeway Colt

Wednesday, 11th May 2011

In South America, bloodstock agent John Fulton paid top price of US$133,000 for a colt from the 1st Argentine-born crop of former shuttler Giant's Causeway (out of multiple Gr1-placed Southern Halo mare La Promenade) during the opening session of Argentina's 3-day Copa Bullrich Yearling Sale at San Isidro in Buenos Aires. The colt (already named Giant's Secret) was consigned by Haras Chenaut & Fulton enthused: "I have loved the colt since I saw him at the farm. Giant's Causeways can cost US$500,000 at Keeneland or Fasig-Tipton, but here we get the same quality in pesos. He is from a female family that has given me great results for my clients. We bought La Promenade for Cobra Farm, as well as her full-sister La Galerie who won the Gr1 Gran Premio Saturnino Unzue at Palermo. (La Galerie also finished 3rd in the US Gr2 Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap at Aqueduct & subsequently sold for US$800,000 as a broodmare prospect at the 2004 Keeneland January Sale.) Giant's Secret offers one of the best, traditional & most successful pedigrees from Ceriani Cernada's Haras La Quebrada farm. La Promenade is also a full-sister to Gouache, the dam of champion Guernika & Japanese Gr2 winner Eishin Osman."
