Multiple Gr1-Winner Equiano To Stand At Swettenham
Victoria's Swettenham Stud principal Adam Sangster announced multiple Gr1-winning French-bred 6YO stallion Equiano (Acclamation-Entente Cordiale, by Ela-mana-mou) has joined the Nagambie-based stud's roster for the 2011 season & will stand at an "early bird" fee of $15,000 & subsequently at $16,500. Equiano (who stood his 1st season at England's Hetrfordshire-based Newsells Park Stud this year) won the 2008 UK Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (as a 3YO against older horses, with Australia's Takeover Target runner-up) & won the same Gr1 King's Stand Stakes again in 2010 (with Australia's Nicconi 4th), before finishing runner-up by a neck behind Australian-bred Starspangledbanner in 2010's UK Gr1 July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket. Overall Equiano recorded 7 wins (also including 2010's Gr3 Palace House Stakes over 5 furlongs at Newmarket & Listed Abernant Stakes over 6 furlongs at Newmarket) & 8 placings (also including 2010's Gr2 Temple Stakes over 5 furlongs at Haydock, plus 2009's Listed Abernant Stakes over 6 furlongs at Newmarket, 2008's French Gr2 Prix du Gros-Chene over 1000m at Chantilly & 2007's French Gr2 Criterium De Maisons-Laffitte over 1200m) from 27 starts for £571,273 (A$885,000) earnings. Sangster enthused: "Equiano has the physical type & the sprinting blood to excite any breeder & the partners in Europe at Newsells Park have made a commitment to support this stallion with mares in his initial 4 seasons. My pedigree analyst has already chosen a large number of our mares here for the same purpose, making it an easy decision to stand Equiano."
