US Jockey Michael Baze Found Dead at Churchill
In Kentucky, the Louisville Metro Coroner's office announced jockey Michael Baze (a member of the famed riding family of US racing) "was found dead on the backstretch at Churchill Downs" racetrack, reported bloodhorse.com. A Louisville Metro Police spokesperson confirmed "a body was found in a Cadillac Escalade near Gate 5 at 4.30 p.m" & noted police "do not suspect foul play". Baze, 24, was "scheduled for a preliminary hearing today on a cocaine possession charge". Baze is the son of retired rider Mike Baze & 1st cousin of US Eclipse Award-winner Tyler Baze; his uncle is Gary Baze, while US Hall-Of-Fame member & all-time record-winning rider Russell Baze is the 1st cousin of his father Mike. Baze (who began riding in 2003) was the leading rider at Arlington Park last year with 104 victories & overall recorded 918 wins from 6,968 mounts for US $32.4 million earnings.
