US 3YO Dialed In Running For US$6m Preakness Payday
US 3YO colt Dialed In (Mineshaft-Miss Doolittle, by Storm Cat) "has a chance to become The Six Million Dollar Horse" reported bloodhorse.com. A win in the US$1 million Gr1 Preakness Stakes on May 21 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore "would net Dialed In a US$5.5 million bonus, in addition to the US$600,000 winner's share". Dialed In (who started favourite in last weekend's Gr1 Kentucky Derby but finished 8th, after being squeezed at the start & sitting last of 19 horses at the half-way mark) is eligible for the bonus following earlier 2011 victories in the Gr3 Holy Bull Stakes & Gr1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park; MI Developments (parent company of Pimlico & Gulfstream) put up the bonus. The potential US$6.1 million in single-race earnings for Dialed In "would set a North American record, eclipsing the US$5.884 million earned by Smarty Jones in the 2004 Gr1 Kentucky Derby". Dialed In (trained by Nick Zito for owner Robert LaPenta) was a US$475,000 yearling at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton August Sale.
