Aust-Bred Redoute's Choice Son Wins UK Black-Type

Monday, 16th May 2011

Flagship Arrowfield Stud stallion & current Australian Champion Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a UK black-type success when Australian-bred colt Elzaam (Redoute's Choice-Mambo In Freeport, by Kingmambo) blitzed his rivals by 6-lengths in the £30,000 (A$47,000) Listed Carnarvon Stakes (6 furlongs) for 3YOs at Newbury. Elzaam (ridden by Richard Hills for trainer Roger Varian) defeated Irish-bred colts Cape To Rio (Captain Rio-Misaayef, by Swain) & Dinjum Daimond (Aussie Rules-Moving Diamonds, by Lomitas). Elzaam (among a small group of Redoute's Choice yearlings bred in Australia to Northern Hemisphere time in early 2008 & sold in Europe in 2009) was purchased by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud at France's 2009 Arqana August Yearling sale for €280,000 (A$389,000). Overall he now boasts 2 wins & 3 placings (in 2010's Gr2 Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot, Gr2 July Stakes over 6 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr3 John Smith's Extra Smooth Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury) from 6 starts for £58,059 (A$90,000) earnings.
