Canford Cliffs Wins UK Gr1 Lockinge Stakes

In the UK, boom Irish-bred 4YO entire Canford Cliffs (Tagula-Mrs Marsh, by Marju) returned from a 10-months layoff to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the £175,000 (A$271,00) Gr1 Lockinge Stakes (8 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Newbury. Canford Cliffs (ridden by Richard Hughes for trainer Richard Hannon) defeated front-running fellow Irish-bred 4YO entire Worthadd (Dubawi-Wigman, by Rahy) US-bred 7YO gelding Premio Loco (Prized-Crazee Mental, by Magic Ring). Canford Cliffs was a €46,000 (A$64,000) weanling at the 2007 Goffs November Sale & later a £50,000 (A$78,000) yearling at the 2008 Doncaster August Sale. Canford Cliffs now has 6 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Sussex Stakes over 8 furlongs at Goodwood, Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot & Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at The Curragh, plus 2009's UK Gr2 Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot) & 3 placings (in 2010's UK Gr1 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2009's French Gr1 Prix Morny over 1200m at Deauville) from 9 starts for £745,298 (A$1.155m) earnings.
