Stravinsky Returns Permanently To NZ Cambridge Stud

Monday, 16th May 2011

In New Zealand, Cambridge Stud principal Sir Patrick Hogan confirmed Gr1-winning shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) is returning to his farm for the 2011 breeding season & noted: "When he returned to Japan after the 2009 season I thought he might never be seen in the Southern Hemisphere again." However Hogan confirmed he has sealed the deal for Stravinsky to return to Cambridge permanently, the fact he would no longer be shuttling to Japan "providing surety to breeders". Stravinsky initially shuttled to NZ (from Ashford Stud in Kentucky) in 2000 & has produced Southern Hemisphere Gr1-winners Mr Baritone (Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap), Serenade Rose (Gr1 VRC Oaks, Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes, Gr1 AJC Oaks), Keeninsky (Gr1 Telegraph Handicap, Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes), Captivate (Gr1 New Zealand Breeders' Stakes) & Time Keeper (Gr1 Easter Handicap); in addition he boasts Northern Hemisphere Gr1-winnign sprinters Benbaun, Balmont & Soldier's Tale. His southern shuttles were interrupted by Australia's Equine Influenza outbreak in 2007 & quarantine protocols from Japan in 2008. He returned to NZ from Japan in 2009 (covering 90 mares) but was absent again last season. The 6YO gelding El Chico (Stravinsky-Las Chicas Buenas, by Classic Fame) became his 67th individual stakes-winner world-wide in winning last month's NZ Gr3 Easter Cup (1600m) at Riccarton Park. Stravinsky will stand this year at Cambridge for NZ$25,000+GST.
