Caviar BTC Cup Win Highest Rated In Last 30 years

Tuesday, 17th May 2011

Meanwhile Timeform rating expert Gary Crispe confirmed Black Caviar's 6th successive Gr1 victory in last weekend's Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben "earned a figure of 133, comfortably making her the highest-rated winner of the race in the last 30 years". He also noted "she has now added to her tally 12 straight stakes wins - a record for any horse in Australia since the introduction of Graded races in the 1970s, while her 6th straight Gr1 success now stands alone having eclipsed Apache Cat's 5 in succession". And Black Caviar "came home the last 600m in a tick better than 32.87sec- quite remarkable considering how easy she appeared to do it". Crispe also emphasised that, while the 133 figure is fractionally below Black Caviar's peak 135 Timeform rating (achieved down the Flemington straight in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap) "she had not raced for 5 weeks (since winning the Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes at Randwick) & she does not seem as comfortable right-handed, especially on tight turning tracks like Doomben"; nevertheless "while below her peak figure, a 133 rating still remains a lofty figure for any horse racing in Australia. To put that in perspective only So You Think & Might And Power have run to that level in the last 30 years in Australia, but importantly no mare has ever reached that level in the modern era of Australian racing, if ever."
