Equitana Wins Brazil Gr1 Presidente Da Republica

Front-running 3YO filly Equitana (Romarin-Uaiasol, by Choctaw Ridge) scored by a neck against older rivals in Brazil's Gr1 Grande Premio Presidente da Republica (1600m on turf) at Cidade Jardim to become the 1st filly in 15 years to take this prestigious event. Equitana (ridden by Ivaldo Santana for trainer Alexandre Garcia Saldanha Correa) defeated fast-finishing favoured 4YO entire Salute (Pure Prize-Salve Salve, by Lode) & 5YO entire Imperio de Birigui (Hard Buck-Casual Talk, by Tumble Lark). Equitana took her overall record to 6 wins (also including both 2010's Gr1 Grande Premio Joao cecilio Ferraz over 1500m at Cidade Jardim & Listed Classico Emerald Hill over 1600m at Cidade Jardim) & 2 runners-up (including February's Gr2 Clasico Presidente Hernani Azevedo Silva over 1600m at Cidade Jardim) from 12 starts.
