Wednesday, 18th May 2011

In the US auction ring, George Bolton paid top price of US$220,000 for a colt from the 1st-crop of Gr1-winning shuttler & 2007 Gr1 Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun (out of 7-time-winning 14-year-old The Prime Minister mare Sweet Minister) at the 1-day Barretts Equine May Sale of 2YOs-In-Training in the Hinds Pavilion on the grounds of Fairplex Park in Southern California. The colt (consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables as agent) clocked the equal-fastest 21.4sec for 2 furlongs during the pre-sale breeze-up session & his dam Sweet Minister has previously produced Gr1-winner Sinister Minister.
