VRC Plans Black Caviar-Rocket Man "Showdown"
Victoria Racing Club chairman Rod Fitzroy "backed by yesteday's announcement of potentially the biggest purse for a sprint race in the world, will spend the weekend in Singapore trying to organise a Black Caviar-Rocket Man clash in the Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic on November 5" reported The Herald-Sun. Australian-bred 5YO gelding Rocket Man (Viscount-Macrosa, by McGinty) is favourite for Sunday's Gr1 KrisFlyer (1200m) in Singapore & Fitzroy "will be dangling a $1.2 million carrot before trainer Patrick Shaw & connections of Rocket Man, winner of 14 of his 18 starts". VRC chief executive Dale Monteith declared that, if "such a scenario played out (Black Caviar versus Rocket Man) the Spring Carnival's final day could attract a crowd of 100,000 for the 1st time". Monteith noted: "We believe the increase in prize-money for the Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic & the bonus will result in the world's best sprinters coming to Melbourne to take on Black Caviar." And Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody confirmed: "It's a logical target, given she won the race last year & the extra money makes it an even more logical target."
