In South Africa, dual Australian Champion Sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a group success (& 81st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when Australian-bred 4YO gelding Safwan (Encosta de Lago-Showella, by Lord Ballina) lunged in the final stride to snatch a dead-heat victory with front-running 6YO gelding Golden Chariot (Caesour-Golden Apple, by Northern Guest) in the R300,000 (A$43,000) Gr2 Betting World 1900 (1900m) at Greyville. Safwan (ridden by Anthony Delpech for trainer Mike De Kock) & Golden Chariot (ridden by Muzi Yeni for trainer Sean Tarry) defeated Argentine-bred 5YO gelding In Writing (Editor's Note-Inalay, by Candy Stripes). Safwan (a $250,000 yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 4 wins from 17 starts.
