Aust-Bred Gingerbread Man Wins Gr1 Singapore Guineas

Monday, 23rd May 2011

European champion 4-time Gr1-winning shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph when his Australian-bred gelded son Gingerbread Man (Shamardal-Quaffle, by Hurricane Sky) completed the 3YO Triple Crown with a 1.5-lengths victory in the S$500,000 (A$400,000) Gr1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs at Kranji. Favourite Gingerbread Man (ridden by Australian jockey Vlad Duric for trainer Bruce Marsh) defeated fellow Australian-bred gelding Clear For Action (Commands-Petal Power, by Exbourne) & another colt Ato (Royal Academy-Another Legend, by Lyphard's Wish). Last season's Singapore Champion 2YO Gingerbread Man (a $30,000 yearling consigned by Rothwell Park at the 2009 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) now has 8 wins (also including April's Gr2 3YO Classic over 1400m at Kranji & March's Gr3 3YO Sprint over 1200m, plus 2010's Magic Millions Juvenile Championship over 1200m) & 2 runners-up from 11 starts for S$873,990 (A$700,000) earnings. Meanwhile Gingerbread Man's dam Quaffle will go under the hammer at the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast; she is a member of the Rothwell Park draft & is in-foal to former Australian Racehorse-Of-The-Year & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro.
