US Gr1-Winner Archarcharch To Stand At Spendthrift
This season's US Gr1-winning 3YO colt Archarcharch (Arch-Woodman's Dancer, by Woodman) who suffered a career-ending injury in the Gr1 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 7, will enter stud in 2012 at B. Wayne Hughes's Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky. Archarcharch (a US$60,000 yearling at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale) retires with 3 wins (in April's Gr1 Arkansas Derby over 9 furlongs at Oaklawn Park, February's Gr3 Southwest Stakes over 8 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & 2010's Listed Sugar Bowl Stakes over 6 furlongs at Fair Grounds) & 2 placings (including March's Gr2 Rebel Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park) from 7 starts for US$832,744 earnings. Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey commented: "We are delighted with the addition of Archarcharch to our stallion roster. He is a big, grand-looking son of Arch from a great family & it is particularly noteworthy that he broke his maiden as a 2YO sprinting & then went on to win the Arkansas Derby at 9 furlongs. He also gave every indication that he'd handle a Classic distance. We're glad to have him & we intend to support him strongly with our own broodmare band."
