Bahhare Moves From NZ Rich Hill To Pines Thoroughbreds
In New Zealand, UK Gr2-winning & dual Gr1-placed shuttle stallion Bahhare (Woodman-Wasnah, by Nijinsky) will relocate from Rich Hill Stud to the South Island for the 2011 season to The Pines Thoroughbreds at Rakaia in Mid-Canterbury at a fee of NZ$3,000+GST. Rich Hill studmaster John Thompson explained: "We can accommodate 4 stallions at Rich Hill & the imminent arrival of the champion Australian performer Shocking resulted in us making the difficult decision to relocate Bahhare. He gave great service during his time with us & he's always been a popular stallion with South Island breeders, as 2 of his best Gr1-performers Hurrah & Best Gift started their careers in Christchurch." US-bred Bahhare enjoyed a brief racing career (Timeform rated 122 as a 2YO & 121 as a 3YO) until his pre-mature retirement due to injury; he was unbeaten from 3 starts in England as a juvenile (highlighted by victory in the Gr2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster); the following season he was Gr1-placed in both the Gr1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket & Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Bahhare (a half-brother to G1-winning sire Bahri) commenced his stallion career in Ireland in 1999 & later that year made his 1st trip to Rich Hill Stud (producing 4 Gr1-peformers from his 1st southern crop, including South Australian Oaks winner Dowry & NZ Captain Cook Stakes winner Hurrah) & was NZ Champion Sire of 2YOs in 2003-04. Subsequent star gallopers include Australasian Oaks runner-up Star Of Gretchen, VRC Derby place-getter Our Bahhare & New Zealand Derby place-getter Charliehorse, plus Hong Kong Gr3-winner & 6-times Gr1-placed Best Gift.
