Maryland 2YOs Day-1: US$390k Malibu Moon Filly

Tuesday, 24th May 2011

In the US auction ring early this morning (Australian time), trainer Bob Baffert paid US$390,000 for a filly by Malibu Moon (the 2nd foal out of winning Giant's Causeway mare Eden's Causeway) during initial action at the opening session of the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training in Timonium in Maryland. The filly (already named Eden's Moon) was consigned by Bridlewood Farm as agent & clocked equal-fastest 21.6sec for 2 furlongs during the pre-sale breeze-up session. Her dam Eden's Causeway is a half sister to champion Paradise Creek, Gr1-winners Forbidden Apple & Wild Event (by Wild Again), stakes-winners I'm Very Irish & Paradise River (dam of English champion David Junior). Hill n Dale Farms bloodstock services director Donato Lanni (who helps Baffert pick out horses at the sales) told bloodhorse.com: "She's for one of Bob's clients. She is a well-bred filly with a strong family, she worked awesome on the track & she's by Malibu Moon, so she has sire power. Check, check, check."
