Refuse To Bend Adds French Gr2

Tuesday, 24th May 2011

In Europe overnight, multiple Gr1-winning former shuttler Refuse To Bend (Sadler's Wells-Market Slide, by Gulch) added a French group success when The Aga Khan's star 4YO home-bred mare & last season's French Oaks winner Sarafina (Refuse To Bend-Sanariya, by Darshaan) powered home from the tail of the field to score a 2-lengths victory in the €130,000 (A$181,000) Gr2 Prix Corrida (2100m) for mares 4YO & up at Saint-Cloud. Sarafina (ridden by Christophe-Patrice Lemaire for trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre) defeated UK-bred fellow 4YO mare Announce (Selkirk-Hachita, by Gone West) & Irish-bred 5YO mare One Clever Cat (One Cool Cat-Burn Baby Burn, by King's Theatre). Sarafina took her record to 4 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Prix de Diane Hermes-French Oaks over 2100m at Chantilly & Gr1 Prix Saint-Alary over 2000m at Longchamp) & 3 placings (including last start's Gr1 Prix Ganay over 2100m at Longchamp on April 30, plus 2010's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over 2400m at Longchamp & Gr1 Prix Vermeille over 2400m at Longchamp) from 7 starts for €1,251,855 (A$1.74m) earnings.
