Maryland 2YOs Day-2: US$600k Indian Charlie Colt

Wednesday, 25th May 2011

In the US auction ring early this morning (Australian time), Pennsylvania-based EQB agent Patrice Miller (acting on behalf of an unnamed client) paid US$600,000 for a colt by Indian Charlie (out of unraced Summer Squall mare Bally Storm) during the closing session of the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2YOs-in-training at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium in Maryland. The colt (whose dam Bally Storm is a half-sister to Gr2-winning sire Yarrow Brae) was consigned by Becky Thomas’s Sequel Bloodstock, which previously purchased him for just US$95,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale. In a similar result 2 years ago, this colt’s then 2YO full-brother sold for US$725,000 at the Fasig-Tipton February Sale, after previously selling for US$200,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. The colt clocked equal-fastest 10.2sec for 1 furlong during the pre-sale breeze-up session & Miller told thoroughbredtimes.com: “We thought he was special & he certainly looks like the genuine article.”
