Rocket Man To Miss Royal Ascot Sprints

Wednesday, 25th May 2011

In Singapore overnight, trainer Patrick Shaw “ruled out” the keenly anticipated appearance in next month’s UK Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot by the pre-post favourite, Australian-bred 5YO gelding & Singapore's highest-rated galloper Rocket Man (Viscount-Macrosa, by McGinty) reported racingpost.com. Following “impressive victories” March’s UAE Gr1 Golden Shaheen at Meydan & Sunday’s Singapore Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint, Rocket Man “was as short as 9-2 for the Ascot Gr1, but Shaw had consistently voiced concerns that the race would come too soon after his international exertions”. Ascot spokesman Nick Smith confirmed: “Unfortunately Rocket Man won't be coming to Royal Ascot. He might come for the Gr1 July Cup, but his trainer Pat Shaw says that if there was another week between his win last week & Royal Ascot he might well have come. We obviously talked about the July Cup in detail when I was in Singapore last week & he (Shaw) is leaving that option open - it is in the Global Sprint Challenge, which makes it an attractive option.”
