Widden Sets Star Witness Stud Fee At $33k

Wednesday, 25th May 2011

NSW Hunter Valley-based Widden Stud announced dual Gr1-winning 3YO colt Star Witness (Starcraft-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter) will stand at a service fee of $33,000 when he begins his 1st-season in the breeding barn later this year, after he returns from next month’s trip to England for the Royal Ascot carnival. Widden’s Antony Thompson noted: “Breeders now have an opportunity to lock in a booking before he competes in the Gr1 King’s Stand Stakes & Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month. We have over 90 confirmed bookings in Star Witness to this point & the interest has been terrific. Some breeders have had the chance to inspect him already at Danny O’Brien’s Flemington stables, with the feedback incredibly positive, so we’re expecting he will have a full book before the season commences. He is such a good looking colt with a great race record who I believe can have a significant impact at stud." Star Witness is expected to have his final serious hit-out in an 800m jump-out at Werribee this Friday before departing from Melbourne on June 1. Star Witness (a $150,000 yearling consigned by Almavale Bloodstock at the 2009 Magic Millions January Sale on the Gold Coast) currently boasts 4 wins (including 2010's Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m at Flemington, Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield & Listed Talindert Stakes over 1100m at Flemington) & 3 placings (including February’s Listed Manfred Stakes over 1300m at Sandown, plus 2010's Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic over 1200m at Flemington & Listed Vain Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield) from 10 starts for $1,202,200 earnings.
