Hugh Bowman To Ride In UK For 6-Weeks

Thursday, 26th May 2011

Former champion Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman is returning to the UK for a 2nd “working holiday” with prominent trainer Mick Channon, for whom he rode for 3-months in 2007. Bowman (who landed 33 winners during his previous UK stint) will leave Australia after the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (where he is booked to ride Black Piranha) & spend “a month to 6 weeks” in the UK. He told racenet.com.au: “Mick asked me to come back over & it's a quiet time here. I don't think I'm in contention for the premiership, Christine (wife) & I have no kids, so it's a great opportunity to do it again while we can. It also gives Christine the chance to go & spend some time with her family (in Ireland) & I'll certainly get over there & see them too. I'll be back for the new season.”
