Maryland 2YOs Day-2: US$200k Forest Grove Colt

Thursday, 26th May 2011

Trainer Lyn Whiting ((acting for Charles Cella) paid US$200,000 for a colt from the 2nd-crop of Gr3-winning Canadian-based sire Forest Grove (out of stakes-winning Clever Trick mare Asheville) consigned by agent Pike Racing, which “hit pay-dirt after buying him back on a final bid of US$22,000 at the 2011 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co March 2YOs-in-training sale” reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Forestry stallion Forest Grove (whose 1st-crop of 69 2YOs launched 12 winners, including stakes-winner Overvalued) previously “never had a 2YO sell for more than US$60,000”; he currently stands at Canmor Farms in British Columbia for C$3,000 after beginning his career at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky. However the colt clocked the fastest 33.8sec for 3 furlongs during the pre-sale breeze-up session & Whiting declared: “I was here to watch the work & thought it was the best of the day. He’s a big, strapping horse & we’ll give him some time if he needs it.” The Kentucky-bred colt’s dam Asheville is from the family of Gr1-winners Femme Elite, Ad Valorem, Tight Spot & Valiant Nature.
