Maryland 2YOs Day-2: US$300k Indian Charlie Colt

Thursday, 26th May 2011

Carolyn Vogel from Crossed Sabres Farm paid US$300,00 for another colt by Indian Charlie (our of unraced Seeking The Gold mare Cariada) consigned by James Chapman’s Breaking Point Farm as agent. The Kentucky-bred colt is from the family of champion sires Sky Classic & Regal Classic & Vogel (who confirmed he is likely to be trained by Dale Romans) told thoroughbredtimes.com: “He was my 2nd choice from the other one ($600,000 Indian Charlie colt reported above), but we didn’t even bid on him. This one is just not as developed yet, but we think he has every chance to be just as good.” The sale represented a major pin-hooking success for James Chapman, who purchased him for just US$13,000 at this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co March 2YOs-in-training sale; Chapman noted: “He’s a late maturing video & the time really helped. I bought him in the ring (at OBSC). I didn’t look at him or anything.” However Chapman is previously famous for buying eventual stakes-winner Atlantic Ocean as a yearling for US$31,000 & selling her 5 months later to The Thoroughbred Corp for US$1.9-million.
