Maryland 2YOs Day-2: US$300k More Than Ready Filly
Mandy Pope from Florida’s Whisper Hill Farm paid US$300,000 for a filly by Vinery Stud shuttler More Than Ready (out of winning Unbridled mare Uncork) consigned by consigned by Florida pin-hooker Lynne Boutte of Black Swan Stable. The Kentucky-bred filly (already named Corkage) previously sold for US$50,000 to Boutte’s Black Swan (acting on behalf of a partnership headed by John DeStefano) at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Pope (who confirmed Bob Hess will train the filly) told thoroughbredtimes.com: “There was nothing not to like. She’s gorgeous, she looked good on the track & she vetted well. Everything was there.” Corkage clocked equal-fastest 10.2sec for 1 furlong during the pre-sale breeze-up session & Pope added she liked buying at the Maryland sale, noting: “It’s a good place to come shop, because it’s the right time of year. The horses typically don’t need time off & you have the races in mind.” The filly’s dam Uncork is a half-sister to stakes-winner Chetten County & a full-sister to Detach (dam of Gr2-winner Apart); it is also the family of Horse-Of-The-Year Allez France & Gr1-winners Al Mamoon, La Gueriere, Icon Project & Honor In War.
