Friday, 27th May 2011

In France, European Gr2-winning & dual Gr1-placed stallion & NZ The Pines Thoroughbreds shuttler Bahhare (Woodman-Wasnah, by Nijinsky) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Balaythous (Bahhare-Silirisa, by Sillery) was 2nd-across-the-line by a short-head but awarded victory by the stewards (for interference inside the final 200m) in the €52,000 (A$72,000) Listed Prix Bedel (2400m) for 4YOs & up at Lyon-Parilly. Balaythous (ridden by Flavien Prat for trainer Brigitte Renk) defeated German-bred 4YO colt Lucas Cranach (Mamool-Lots Of Love, by Java Gold) who had been 1st-across-the-line, with a further neck to UK-bred 4YO entire Jo All the Way (Gold Away-Secret Question, by Rahy). Balaythous was a €30,000 (A$42,000) yearling at the 2007 Deauville October Sale; overall he now has 6 wins & 4 placings from 14 starts for €116,610 (A$162,000) earnings.
