King's Best Adds UK Gr3

Friday, 27th May 2011

Former shuttler King's Best (Kingmambo-Allegretta, by Lombard) added a UK group success overnight when Prince Khalid Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms home-bred 4YO entire & last year's star Gr1 English Derby/French Gr1 Arc De Triomphe winner Workforce (King's Best-Soviet Moon, by Sadler's Wells) returned from an 8-months spell to scored a 1-length victory in the £50,000 (A$78,000) Gr3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (10 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Sandown Park. Favourite Workforce (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Sir Michael Stoute) defeated front-running 6YO entire Poet (Pivotal-Hyabella, by Shirley Heights) & Irish-bred fellow 4YO entire Jan Vermeer (Montjeu-Shadow Song, by Pennekamp). Last year, Workforce blitzed his rivals by 7-lengths & smashed the course record in winning the Gr1 English Derby (12 furlongs) at Epsom Downs & followed-up by defeating Europe’s best older rivals in the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp. Overall he now boasts 4 wins & a runner-up (in 2010’s UK Gr2 Dante Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at York) from 6 starts for £2,885,286 (A$4.472m) earnings.
