Montjeu Adds UK Gr2 Quinella

Also in the UK overnight, dual-Derby winning stallion & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group quinella when evergreen Irish-bred 9YO entire Blue Bajan (Montjeu-Gentle Thoughts, by Darshaan) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in the £80,000 (A$124,000) Gr2 Henry II Stakes (16.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Sandown Park. Blue Bajan (ridden by Daniel Tudhope for trainer David O’Meara) defeated 5YO entires Montaff (Montjeu-Meshhed, by Gulch) & Godolphin’s UAE-bred favourite Holberg (Halling-Sweet Willa, by Assert) who was making his 1st start since finishing 6th in last November’s Gr1 Melbourne Cup. Blue Bajan took his record to 12 wins & 17 placings (including last start’s Gr2 Yorkshire Cup over 14 furlongs at York on May 13, plus 2009’s Gr2 Yorkshire Cup over 14 furlongs at York & each of 2007’s Gr3 Huxley Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at Chester, Listed Gala Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown Park & Listed Winter Derby Trial Stakes over 10 furlongs at Lingfield Park, as well as 2006’s Listed Churchill Stakes over 10 furlongs at Lingfield Park) from 56 starts.
