Black Caviar & Frankel Top New World Rankings

Monday, 30th May 2011

Australia’s unbeaten 4YO sprinting mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) has remained at the top of the latest release of World Thoroughbred Rankings by the International Federation Of Horse Authorities, sharing the title of the world’s highest-rated racehorse with unbeaten English 3YO colt Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill). The pair have been rated at 130 for the best performances in the 6-months period from 1 December 2010-23 May 2011: Black Caviar’s record-breaking victory in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on 12 March; & Frankel’s 6-length victory in the Gr1 English 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Newmarket on 30 April. Greg Carpenter, chairman of the ANZ Classifications Committee & Australia’s representative on the World Thoroughbred Rankings Committee, commented: “Black Caviar’s rating of 130 remains the highest by an Australian horse since the World Thoroughbred Rankings commenced in 2002 & she is still the only sprinter ever to head the list of the world’s top 50 racehorses.”
