Bernardini Adds US Gr2

Tuesday, 4th October 2011

Triple Gr1-winning shuttler & US Eclipse Award-winning stallion Bernardini (A.P.Indy-Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American) added a US graded-stakes success when his colt Wilburn (Bernardini-Moonlight Sonata, by Carson City) scored a 4.75-lengths victory in the US$510,000 Gr2 Indiana Derby (8.5 furlongs) for 3YOs at Hoosier Park. Wilburn (ridden by Julien Leparoux for trainer Steve Asmussen) defeated fellow colts Shackleford (Forestry-Oatsee, by Unbridled) & Caleb’s Posse (Posse-Abbey's Missy, by Slewacide). Wilburn (a US$75,000 yearling at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Sale & subsequently a US$625,000 2YO at the 2010 Keeneland April Sale) now has 5 wins (also including September’s Listed Smarty Jones Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Parx Racing) from 8 starts for US$586,515 earnings.
