December Draw Wins Gr1 Turnbull Stakes

Tuesday, 4th October 2011

Richard Pegum’s imported Irish-bred 6YO gelding December Draw (Medecis-New York, by Danzero) notched his 3rd successive win & confirmed his favouritism for the Gr1 Caulfield Cup with a short-head victory in the $500,000 Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) for 4YOs & up at Flemington in Melbourne. Favourite December Draw (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Mark Kavanagh) defeated front-running 6YO entire Glass Harmonium (Verglas-Spring Symphony, by Darshaan) & 4YO entire Playing God (Blackfriars-Dolly Will Do, by Rubiton). December Draw took his record to 8 wins (also including September’s Gr3 Naturalism Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield) & 7 placings (including 2010’s UK Listed Magnolia Stakes over 10 furlongs at Kempton Park) from 22 starts for $569,772 earnings.
