Mourayan Wins The Bart Cummings

Lloyd Williams’s imported Irish-bred 6YO entire Mourayan (Alhaarth-Mouramara, by Kahyasi) scored a 2-lengths victory in the $200,000 Listed The Bart Cummings (2500mm) at Flemington. Mourayan (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Robert Hickmott) defeated favoured 7YO gelding Niwot (Galileo-Too Darn Hot, by Noble Bijou) & 6YO gelding Showcause (Giant's Causeway-Showella, by Lord Ballina). Mourayan took his record to 3 wins & 10 placings (including September’s Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill & April’s Gr1 The BMW over 2400m at Rosehill, plus 2010’s Gr1 The Metropolitan over 2400m at Randwick & each of 2009’s Gr1 Irish Derby over 12 furlongs at The Curragh, Irish Gr2 Derby Trial Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown, Irish Gr3 Ballyroan Stakes over 12 furlongs at Leopardstown & Irish Gr3 Ballysax Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown, as well as 2008’s Irish Gr2 Beresford Stakes over 8 furlongs at The Curragh) from 26 starts for $1,164,241 earnings.
