Sepoy Wins Gr1 Manikato Stakes

Tuesday, 4th October 2011

In Australia over the holiday long-weekend, former shuttler Elusive Quality (Gone West-Touch Of Greatness, by Hero's Honor) added a Gr1 triumph when Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's favoured home-bred 3YO colt & last season’s Australian Champion 2YO Sepoy (Elusive Quality-Watchful, by Danehill) recovered from a slow start to score a 2.25-lengths victory over his older rivals in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in Melbourne. Sepoy (ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer Peter Snowden) defeated 5YO mares Sister Madly (Redoute's Choice-Jade Tiara, by Bureaucracy) & More Joyous (More Than Ready-Sunday Joy, by Sunday Silence). Sepoy now has 7 wins (also including last start’s Gr2 Danehill Stakes over 1200m at Flemington on September 3, plus August’s Listed Vain Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield & April’s Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill, as well as both February's Gr1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield & Gr3 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m at Caulfield, in addition to January's Listed Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview over 1000m at Caulfield & 2010's Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes over 1000m at Flemington) & a runner-up (in March’s Gr2 Todman Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill) from 8 starts for $3,439,500 earnings.
