Omayad Wins Chile Gr1 Ricardo Lyon

Wednesday, 5th October 2011

In South America, last season’s Chilean Champion Juvenile Male Omayad (The Mighty Tiger-Wilhemina, by Wagon Master) maintained his unbeaten record with victory in Chile’s Gr1 Clasico Nacional Ricardo Lyon-Cruz del Sur (2000m on turf) for 3YOs at Club Hipico de Santiago. Omayad (ridden by Oscar Ulloa for trainer Jorge Inda) was 2nd-across-the-line behind fellow colt Quick Casablanca (Until Sundown-Quick, by Cipayo) but the stewards reversed the placings for interference in the straight; the filly Maria Morena (Star Dabbler-Marville, by Barkerville) finished 3rd. Omayad took his record to 7 wins (also including September’s Gr1 Clasico Polla De Potrillos over 1700m at Club Hipico, July’s Gr2 Premio Criadores Machos over 1600m at Hipodromo Chile, both June’s Gr1 Premio Alberto Vial Infante over 1600m at Club Hipico & Gr3 Premio Alvaro Covarrubias over 1600m at Club Hipico, plus May’s Gr3 Premio Cotejo De Potrillos over 1300m at Club Hipico) from 7 starts.
