Vic Stewards Respond To Jockey Sponsor Moves

Wednesday, 5th October 2011

Meanwhile Racing Victoria chairman of stewards Terry Bailey yesterday issued a warning in response to media reports leading jockeys were considering taking action against a RV directive not to wear sponsored undershirts during the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Bailey noted: “Rule LR64(2) is clear. There is to be no advertising on jockeys clothing other than the national sponsor Jayco, the proceeds of which go to the National Jockeys Trust. This rule does not apply to bags or other non-racing equipment, but does apply to all sponsorship messages whether on skivvies or pants, regardless of the identity of the sponsor.”
