NSW Minister Names 3 Randwick Racecourse Trustees
NSW Minister For Racing George Souris announced the appointment of “the new members of the Randwick Racecourse Trust, after the NSW Government changed antiquated legislation which appointed trustees for life”. Souris declared: “We have replaced 19th century conventions with modern practices for the appointment of trustees & land use approvals for Randwick Racecourse to safeguard the future of the iconic home of Australian racing.” Souris noted the legislation (which comes into effect on October 7) “allows for the Minister to appoint the Chairman & Trustees for terms totalling up to 8 years”. He announced recently retired magistrate David Armati will be chairman for a period of 5 years, with former NSW Minister & current Luskin Park Stud owner Paul Whelan, plus former Australian Jockey Club chairman & former Australian Racing Board chairman Bob Charley both trustees for 4 years.
