UK Tatts Yearlings Day-1: $1.32m Galileo Filly

Thursday, 6th October 2011

In the UK auction ring overnight, Tom Pritchard-Gordon from Badgers Bloodstock (acting on behalf of Australian Paul Makin) out-bid Coolmore’s John Magnier to pay top price of 800,000 guineas (A$1.32m) for a filly by former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (out of Darshaan mare Gwynn) during the opening session of the 3-day Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1. The filly (consigned from Ireland’s Camas Park Stud) is a 3/4-sister to this year’s Gr1 English Derby winner Pour Moi & Makin declared: “My blood was up to buy this filly. We have seen her a lot; in fact just 2 days before Pour Moi won the Derby, when she was at Ashtown House Stud. I have no idea who will train her, but she will go from here to Di Turner's pre-training yard.” Makin added the filly (whose year older full-sister Kissed won on debut at Navan in Ireland for Coolmore trainer Aidan O’Brien just 45 minutes before this one went through the ring) will eventually join his broodmare band.
