UK Tatts Yearlings Day-1: $825k New Approach Colt

Thursday, 6th October 2011

Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor John Ferguson paid 500,000 guineas (A$825,000) for a colt by 5-time Gr1-winning shuttler & former European Champion 2YO & 3YO New Approach (out of stakes-placed Barathea mare Lady Miletrian) consigned from Ireland’s Lodge Park Stud. The colt is a half-brother to Gr2-placed Himalya & Ferguson told racingpost.com: “I’m very happy with the number of quality individuals New Approach (standing for Darley at Dalham Hall Stud) is producing. They seem to be very athletic & we mustn't forget he was a great racehorse & so has every reason to make a good sire.” Ferguson also noted: “I have been pleasantly surprised by the strength of the market. The strength of the upper-lower market has been very solid, which is good for the industry as a whole. There might be some serious issues within racing, but people still want to buy racehorses.”
