Lonhro To Stand At Darley In Kentucky

Friday, 7th October 2011

Last season's Australian Champion Sire, former Australian Racehorse-Of-The-Year & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) “will shuttle to Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley at Jonabell in Kentucky for the 2012 US breeding season” reported bloodhorse.com. Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor John Ferguson confirmed: “Lonhro is a rare thoroughbred - a Horse-Of-The-Year on the racetrack & then a champion sire. He is among the most talented horses to have graced the Australian turf in living memory & will bring to America the soundness & toughness for which Australian horses are known. As a stallion, his rise has been meteoric.” On the track, Lonhro won 26 of 35 races (24 group victories, including Gr1 triumphs each year as a 2YO, 3YO, 4YO & 5YO) & earned $5,790,510. Lonhro became Australia's leading sire after having only 4 crops to race & Ferguson added: “Lonhro is coming in at the top of his game. He’s young. He’s fresh. He’s already proved he’s a stallion of influence. He stamps his stock. And he’s a great looking horse. Lonhro has totally rewarded our faith in the Southern Hemisphere & we believe he will be perfect for mares in the Northern Hemisphere & a real asset to breeders.” His US fee will be set at a later date.
