UK Tatts Yearlings Day-2: $825k Cape Cross Filly
Bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson (acting for Craig Bennet's Merry Fox Stud) out-bid Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Estates representative Angus Gold to pay 500,000 guineas (A$825,000) for a filly by former shuttler Cape Cross (out of Kingmambo mare Model Queen) consigned from Highclere Stud. The filly is a half-sister to both dual Gr1-winner Regal Parade & this year's Gr3-winner Entifaaha, as well as stakes-placed Hot Prospect & Mount Helicon. Gordon-Watson commented: “She will be trained by Henry Cecil. Craig (Bennett) just decided that he would like to buy a filly again. It is always nice to be buying for him. Cape Cross has produced 2 of the best runners in the last 5 years in Sea The Stars & Ouija Board. I think he is an under-rated sire & does not get the credit he deserves.” Gordon-Watson previously bought the Sadler’s Wells filly Liffey Dancer for Bennett at this sale in 2007 for 2.5 million guineas (A$4.125m), a world-record price for a yearling filly at auction.
