Black Caviar Wins Schillaci Stakes

Monday, 10th October 2011

The world’s highest-rated sprinter, recently-crowned 2011 Australian Horse-Of-The-Year/Champion Sprinter & unbeaten 6-time Gr1-winning 5YO mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) returned from a 21-weeks spell to equal the career-best winning streak of Australian Depression-era immortal Phar Lap by notching her 14th successive win with an effortless 4.25-lengths victory in the $200,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield to claim this race for the 2nd successive year. Hot favourite Black Caviar (ridden by Luke Nolen for trainer Peter Moody) defeated 3YO filly Karuta Queen (Not A Single Doubt-Card Queen, by Final Card) & 4YO gelding Stirling Grove (Mossman-Kalamata, by Desert Prince). Overall Black Caviar (a $210,000 yearling consigned by Swettenham Stud at the 2008 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne) now has 14 wins (also including May’s Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben, April's Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick, both March's Gr1 William Reid Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley & Gr1 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m at Flemington, plus February's Gr1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington, as well as 2010's Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic over 1200m at Flemington, Gr2 Schweppes Stakes over 1200m at Mooney Valley, Gr2 Schillaci Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield & Gr2 Australia Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, in addition to 2009's Gr2 Danehill Stakes over 1200m at Flemington, Listed Arrow Training Services Plate over 1200m at Moonee Valley & Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) from 14 starts for $3,595,050 earnings.
