Monday, 10th October 2011

Tony Santic’s star 16-year-old broodmare Tugela (Riverman-Rambushka, by Roberto) has tested in-foal to Bombora Downs-based triple Gr1-winner Desert King (Danehill-Sabaah, by Nureyev) with a full sibling to dual Australian Horse-Of-The-Year & triple Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva (Desert King-Tugela) due in late August 2012. It is the 1st time Tugela has re-visited Desert King since 1998, for the mating which produced Makybe Diva - 15 wins from 1400-3200m (including 7 Gr1s & 3 Gr2s) & the Australian record $14,526,685 earnings. With Desert King no longer shuttling, he has been thriving at Bombora Downs & syndicate manager Julie Nairn enthused: “He’s in as good shape as ever with his fertility strong (Tugela was in-foal at the 1st attempt). He is looking fantastic, his coat is gleaming & he is really enjoying his work.” Desert King stands at Bombora for $9,900.
