UK Tatts Yearlings Day-3: $1.403m Galileo Filly

Monday, 10th October 2011

Sir Robert Ogden out-bid Coolmore’s John Magnier & paid 850,000 guineas (A$1.403m) for another filly by former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (out of Lear Fan mare Witch Of Fife) consigned from Denis Brosnan’s Ireland’s Croom House Stud. The filly is a full-sister to group-winner Cabaret & a half-sister to group-winner Drumfire. Ogden commented: “I knew we'd have a battle. She was the pick of the sale, a very nice filly. I knew there was a lot of interest in her, I knew Coolmore were interested. The brief to my people was that I did not want any horses by 1st-season sires or 1st foals - I wanted proven & top pedigrees. It's not been easy, we've been waiting on the sidelines for the right horse.” And Ogden’s racing manager Barry Simpson added: “She is a fantastic individual with a wonderful pedigree. Sir Robert loved her the minute he saw her. We've had to wait all week - we've been very patient. There is no trainer decided as yet & she will go from here to Sir Robert's stud. I think I'll go for a large brandy now!”
