Union Rags Wins US Gr1 Champagne Stakes

Unbeaten juvenile colt Union Rags (Dixie Union-Tempo, by Gone West) maintained his perfect record with a 5.25-lengths victory in the US$300,000 Gr1 Champagne Stakes (8 furlongs) for 2YOs at Belmont Park in New York. Union Rags (ridden by Javier Castellano for trainer Michael Matz) defeated fellow colt Alpha (Bernardini-Munnaya, by Nijinsky) & the gelding Right To Vote (Political Force-What A Knight, by Tough Knight). Union Rags (a US$145,000 yearling at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton August Sale & subsequently a US$390,000 2YO at this year’s Fasig-Tipton February Sale) now has 3 wins (also including August’s Gr2 Saratoga Special Stakes over 6.5 furlongs at Saratoga) from 3 starts for US$498,800 earnings.
