1.5kg Melbourne Cup Penalty For Shewan

Tuesday, 11th October 2011

Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter announced a 1.5kg penalty for 5YO gelding Shewan (Blevic-Aberdeen Rose, by Clay Hero) in the $6 million Melbourne Cup (3200m at Flemington on Tuesday 1 November) following his strong-finishing victory in the weekend’s Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield. Shewan’s weight rises from 50kg to 51.5kg in the Melbourne Cup & the Herbert Power win also enabled him to pass the 1st ballot condition for the Melbourne Cup & move to 43rd in the latest order-of-entry. Shewan (trained by Robert Smerdon) now has 5 wins & 6 placings (including February’s Listed Mornington Cup over 2400m) from 15 starts.
