Danehill Dancer Adds UK Gr2

Monday, 17th October 2011

In the UK, former shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) added a group success when front-running Irish-bred 3YO filly Dancing Rain (Danehill Dancer-Rain Flower, by Indian Ridge) scored a 2-lengths victory against older rivals in the £250,000 (A$400,000) Gr2 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (12 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Ascot. Dancing Rain (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer William Haggas) defeated fellow Irish-bred 3YO filly Bible Belt (Big Bad Bob-Shine Silently, by Bering) & 4YO mare Gertrude Bell (Sinndar-Sugar Mill, by Polar Falcon). Dancing Rain (whose dam Rain Flower is a half-sister to the 1992 Gr1 English Derby winner Dr Devious) was a €200,000 (A$274,000) yearling at Ireland’s 2009 Goffs Million Sale; overall she now has 4 wins (also including August’s German Gr1 Preis Der Diana over 2200m at Dusseldorf & June’s Gr1 English Oaks over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs) & 2 runners-up (including May’s Listed Fillies’ Trial Stakes over 10 furlongs at Newbury) from 7 starts for £615,468 (A$985,000) earnings.
