In Germany, Sacarina (Old Vic-Brave Lass, by Ridan) “one of the most successful German broodmares of all time” was euthanased at her owners' stud Gestut Karlshof near Frankfurt aged 19, reported racingpost.com. From 12 foals, Sacarina “has been represented by 9 runners & a third of those won Classics”.

  • Samum (her 1st foal) won the Gr1 Deutsches Derby & Gr1 Grosser Preis von Baden; he now stands at Karlshof & was 2008 champion German sire, when his son Kamsin won the Gr1 Deutsches Derby, Gr1 Rheinland-Pokal & Gr1 Grosser Preis von Baden, while his daughter Baila Me won the Gr1 Preis von Europa; he also sired this year's Gr1 winner Durban Thunder.
  • Salve Regina (her 3rd foal) won the Gr1 Preis der Diana & was 2nd in the Gr1 Deutsches Derby; she is the dam of Salve Germania (who won the US Gr2 Ballston Spa Handicap at Saratoga).
  • Schiaparelli (her 7th foal) won the Gr1 Deutsches Derby, Gr1 Preis Von Europa, Gr1 Grosser Preis Von Berlin & Italy’s Gr1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club twice.
