US Gr1 Star Courageous Cat To Stand At Lane's End
US Gr1-winning 5YO stallion Courageous Cat (Storm Cat-Tranquility Lake, by Rahy) will stand at William Farish’s Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky “following his retirement from racing” reported bloodhorse.com. Farish “has purchased an interest” in Courageous Cat from Martin & Pam Wygod (who race the home-bred runner) & confirmed: “We feel Courageous Cat is the top miler in the country & he is certainly one of the leading candidates for this year’s Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Mile. After that race, he will be retired & a stud fee will be announced.” Courageous Cat (a full-brother to both Gr1-winner After Market who stands at Lane’s End & Gr2-winner Jalil, who was a US$9.7 million yearling purchase by John Ferguson in 2005) currently boasts 6 wins (including July’s Gr1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes over 8 furlongs at Hollywood Park & June’s Gr3 Poker Handicap over 8 furlongs at Belmont Park, plus 2010’s Gr3 Canadian Turf Handicap over 8 furlongs at Gulfstream Park & 2009’s Gr2 National Museum Of Racing Hall-Of-Fame Stakes over 9 furlongs at Saratoga) & 5 placings (including September’s Canadian Gr1 Woodbine Mile Stakes over 8 furlongsat Woodbine, plus 2010’s Gr1 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes over 8 furlongs at Keeneland, as well as both 2009’s Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Mile over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita & Gr1 Jamaica Handicap over 9 furlongs at Belmont Park) from 13 starts for US$1,165,760 earnings.
