Kentucky Derby Winner Giacomo Moves To California
In the US, 2005 Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner & now 9YO 2nd-crop sire Giacomo (Holy Bull-Set Them Free, by Stop The Music) “will be relocated to Magali Farms in California for the 2012 breeding season” reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Giacomo moves from Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs Farm in Kentucky, where he began his stallion career in 2007 & stood for US$5,000 in 2011. Giacomo (whose multiple stakes-winning dam Set Them Free has produced 6 winners from 7 starters) is a half-brother to both multiple Gr1-winner Tiago & Gr2-placed winner Sea Jewel. On the track, Giacomo also finished 3rd in the 2005 Gr1 Preakness Stakes & 7th in the Gr1 Belmont Stakes to conclude his 3YO campaign; he returned as a 4YO to win the Gr2 San Diego Handicap & retired with 3 wins & 7 placings (also including runner-up in the Gr1 Hollywood Futurity as a 2YO) from 16 starts for US$2,537,316 earnings. From 2 crops of racing age, Giacomo has sired 42 winners (4 stakes-winners) from 78 starters for US$1,513,138 earnings.
